Moses Simon Reaches 100 Caps as Nigeria Beat Madagascar

Moses Simon reached a major milestone on Friday as he made his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles during Nigeria’s 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

The Paris FC winger became only the fifth Nigerian player to reach 100 senior international appearances, joining Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Alex Iwobi in the exclusive group.

Simon Reaches 100-Cap Milestone

Simon entered the Madagascar match with 99 appearances for Nigeria, having made his senior debut against Uganda on March 25, 2015.

The 31-year-old has been part of the Super Eagles setup for more than a decade, featuring in AFCON tournaments, World Cup qualifiers and international friendlies.

Before the match, the Nigeria Football Federation had announced plans to honour Simon if he reached the landmark.

His 100th appearance now adds another major chapter to his international career.

Nigeria Complete Comeback

Simon’s milestone came on a memorable night for the Super Eagles, who also opened their AFCON qualifying campaign with a victory.

Madagascar took an early lead through Ehsan Kari in the 15th minute, putting Nigeria under pressure at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Nigeria responded just before half-time when George Ilenikhena scored on his senior international debut to make it 1-1.

Another debutant, Moses Usor, then completed the comeback in the 65th minute to give Nigeria a 2-1 lead.

Fifth Nigerian to Reach 100 Caps

Simon’s achievement places him among a small group of Nigerian players who have reached the century mark.

Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Alex Iwobi had previously reached 100 senior appearances for the Super Eagles.

Simon has scored 12 goals for Nigeria and has featured in 64 competitive matches and 35 friendlies during his international career.

Guinea-Bissau Next

Nigeria will now turn their attention to their second Group L qualifier against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29.

The Super Eagles will look to build on their opening victory as the race for qualification for the 2027 AFCON continues.
