A new programme is being launched to support young Nigerian game developers and emerging gaming studios as the country’s creative technology sector continues to grow.
The initiative is being led by Africacomicade in collaboration with the GIZ Digital Transformation Centre Nigeria programme and will combine game development training, business strategy and international industry exposure.
Programme Targets Emerging Developers
The initiative is designed to help young developers and studio founders gain access to skills, resources and industry networks.
Participants will take part in a specialised bootcamp focused not only on developing games but also on building sustainable businesses around their creative work.
The programme comes as Nigeria’s gaming industry continues to attract attention from developers, investors and international organisations.
International Exposure
One part of the programme involves connecting Nigerian developers with the wider international gaming industry.
The initiative builds on the participation of Nigerian game industry stakeholders at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, in August.
The event provided Nigerian developers and studio founders with opportunities to interact with publishers, investors, platforms and other game creators from around the world.
Building More Than Games
Africacomicade founder Michael Oscar Esio said the programme is aimed at addressing some of the challenges that have limited the growth of Nigeria’s gaming sector.
These challenges include limited access to resources, opportunities and institutional support.
The training therefore combines technical game development with business strategy, giving participants the opportunity to learn how to turn creative ideas into sustainable enterprises.
Gamathon 2026 Showcase
The programme will culminate in a showcase at Gamathon 2026 in Lagos.
The event is scheduled to take place from October 28 to 31 and will bring participants together with other Nigerian and African game creators.
The showcase will provide an opportunity for emerging developers to present their work and connect with other people working in the African games industry.
Nigeria’s Gaming Industry Continues to Develop
The new initiative highlights the growing connection between technology, entertainment and creative industries in Nigeria.
With more developers creating games locally and gaining exposure to international markets, programmes focused on skills development and business support could provide additional opportunities for emerging studios.
For the young developers involved, the programme offers a chance to strengthen their technical skills while gaining a better understanding of how to build and grow a gaming business.
